CREATING WEB PAGE BACKGROUNDS
This page background was created for the UConn & UCinn Bioacoustics Laboratory was created from a photo of whales swimming in a tank.
The water damaged and aged inside cover pages of the book Hinman´s Antiquities provided the inspiration for this page background.
Florentine hand painted papers lined the inside covers of the
Life, Speeches and Public Services of Abraham Lincoln. This paper was scanned and elements were created for graphic designs throughout this book web site. This title page is an example of that layered building process in photoshop.
Photographs were extensively used in the creation of the web page backgrounds for the
Town of East Haven government web site. The web site was completely replaced by Noisemakers Productions early in 2008. Local sites and buildings were photographed and used as backgrounds to integrate the history and culture of the community into the web site. This design technique give the web site a unique custom design not found anywhere else on the web.

EXTRACTING DESIGN ELEMENTS FROM PHYSICAL OBJECTS
|
Part of the process of designing web sites for books from the Arnold Bernhard Library´s Connecticut History Collection Online was scanning and editing images for use in their companion web sites. I collected and edited images from leather book covers, inside covers and from the pages within the book. Any design I thought would enhance the visual value of the web site or represent the era of the book was captured. Civil War era golden eagle from a leather book cover.
W design was found throughout this Roger Wolcott book. I extracted the letter and scroll work to manipulate the design and colorize the background.
